  • Game Spotlight: Masters of Commerce

Blickenstaff's is proud to present the newest game on our shelves: Masters of Commerce! Created by Blickenstaff's own president and game aficionado, Ty Roney, along with his cousin, Britton Roney, Masters of Commerce is the thrilling game of investments and negotiation!

Each player takes on the role of either a landlord or a merchant. The landlords determine the rent of their properties according to the demands of their tenants, the merchants. Merchants earn their points by trading in the market. After five rounds of spirited negotiation, a winner from each group (landlords and merchants) is declared.

Masters of Commerce is a game of trading, negotiating, and unleashing your inner capitalist! You have to be smart to know when to sell, and at what price. Will you invest in safe properties, or risk everything on a big business development? Use your business smarts to decide!

Masters of Commerce is for 3-11 players ages 8 and up. One game takes between 30-45 minutes to play. Lovers of Monopoly and Acquire will definitely enjoy this game. Blickenstaff's is the only place to buy this exciting new game! Come in today to find out if you have the audacity to become a wealthy tycoon!

  • Gingerbread Houses

We know we're jumping the gun just a little bit, but we can't help it...we're SO EXCITED about our new gingerbread house kits!

We are very lucky to have professional chef, Kent Anderson (AKA the genius behind Chef's Table, La Jolla Grove, Malawi's Pizza and more!) at the Shops at Riverwoods. Chef Kent handmade each of our gingerbread kits, which come with four walls, a roof, and a bag of frosting to create a beautiful gingerbread house! And of course, Blickenstaff's has all the candy you could ever need to deck your gingerbread house out for the holidays!

The kit costs $9.99 and is available while supplies last in our store! Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page telling us what candy YOU would use to decorate a gingerbread house. Two lucky readers will win a kit for free!

  • Game Spotlight: Scrabble

We all know Scrabble is everyone's favorite word game, but here are some facts you may not know about this exciting crossword game:

Scrabble is 63 years old! It was introduced in 1948 by Alfred M. Butts. He based the game on an earlier game he invented called Lexiko. He added a game board and tweaked the rules, renaming it Criss-Crosswords. For a few years, Butts struggled to find a market for the game, which was renamed Scrabble. In 1952, Jack Straus, the president of Macy's department store, played the game on vacation and returned to his store only to discover that they did not sell the game. He immediately made a large order and the rest is history!

Scrabble is now one of the most popular games in the world. There are over 4,000 official Scrabble clubs scattered around the world.

Scrabble means "to scratch frantically." It is derived from the Dutch word "schrabbelan" which means "to claw or scrape."

Scrabble has been published in nearly 30 languages.

    English Scrabble contains 100 tiles.

Scrabble now has several variations including travel sets, card games, and electronic versions.

We love Scrabble here at Blickenstaff's. Come check it out along with our great selection of other word and board games!
