My childhood was awesome.
I'm 28, so I guess it's been about 20 years since I was an "official" kid. (though I haven't really grown up too much)
20 years of technological growth has literally changed what it means to be a kid. I know kids who can text with their eyes closed and can destroy me in Call of Duty. (trust me, I've been trash-talked by a 10-year-old)
I'm a big fan of iPhones, iPads, Playstations, XBox's, etc...
But I can't help but feel a bit sad for kids who live their lives in front of a screen.
Yeah, it's pretty cool that you can go bowling from the comfort of your own home - thanks Nintendo. And I'm sure everyone feels like they can actually dance after playing Just Dance. (trust me, you can't)
Even though I love all of these cool new tech toys I believe my childhood was awesome because I didn't have any of those things.
I was out playing in the yard with the kids in the neighborhood daily. Kickball, baseball, riding bikes, building rockets, starting fires (shhhh....), playing cops and robbers and so much more.
My toys didn't move or talk. I had to use my imagination to create elaborate storylines and dialogues. My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made it through a lot of crazy situations.
Times have changed...
I constantly see young kids with headphones plugged in, lost in their own little world.
Maybe it's not a bad thing. Maybe someday we'll find that being plugged in has led to all kinds of benefits.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Do you think being plugged in is a good thing?
