We all know Scrabble is everyone's favorite word game, but here are some facts you may not know about this exciting crossword game:
Scrabble is 63 years old! It was introduced in 1948 by Alfred M. Butts. He based the game on an earlier game he invented called Lexiko. He added a game board and tweaked the rules, renaming it Criss-Crosswords. For a few years, Butts struggled to find a market for the game, which was renamed Scrabble. In 1952, Jack Straus, the president of Macy's department store, played the game on vacation and returned to his store only to discover that they did not sell the game. He immediately made a large order and the rest is history!
Scrabble is now one of the most popular games in the world. There are over 4,000 official Scrabble clubs scattered around the world.
Scrabble means "to scratch frantically." It is derived from the Dutch word "schrabbelan" which means "to claw or scrape."
Scrabble has been published in nearly 30 languages.
English Scrabble contains 100 tiles.
Scrabble now has several variations including travel sets, card games, and electronic versions.
We love Scrabble here at Blickenstaff's. Come check it out along with our great selection of other word and board games!
At Blickenstaff's, we believe in fun for everyone! And we believe that you shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to have fun. Our store is full of great little treasures for less than five dollars. Here are some of our favorites!

Everybody loves a good fake mustache, right? This set features seven different mustaches so you can change up you look every day of the week! Each mustache is from a different movie, so they are great for costumes, or for a quick disguise.

You can never go wrong with a little bit of sparkle. Walking around in public with a tiara on your head is typically frowned upon, but these rings will have the opposite affect. We've found that wearing a tiny crown on your finger is a little more subtle. With four different designs to choose from, you can definitely find one to suit your inner royalty.

Hearkening back to the era of foil wrapped baseball cards, these little figurines bring an element of surprise to your purchase. Each figurine is wrapped in an opaque package so you don't know which one you will get until you buy it. In our opinion, they're all so cool it doesn't matter which one you end up with!

These soft, cuddly little animals are the perfect little companion. With their big eyes and sweet smiles, they are a welcome addition to any collection. There's plenty of animals to choose from, or you can collect them all.

Commonly mistaken for a Chinese finger trap, the Super Boink is proof that good things come in small packages! This little pocket rocket isn't flashy or complicated, but it can provide hours of fun! Whether you are seeing how high you can launch it or aiming it at a particular target (like your older brother), the Super Boink is by far our favorite little toy at Blickenstaff's!

This is the first post of our new series, Top Five Friday! Every Friday, we will be highlighting five of our favorite products in a specific section of our store. Today we're spotlighting our Art Corner!
We carry art supplies from Alex, Melissa and Doug, Curiosity Kits and lots of other great vendors. Here are some of our favorite products:
We love the variety of beautiful, bright colors included in each Melissa and Doug watercolor set. At Blickenstaff's, we have three different sizes to satisfy everyone, from the casual artist to the budding Van Gough. Melissa and Doug paints are non-toxic and come in up to 21 different colors.
In an artist's tool belt, one of their most important tools is the paint brush. Melissa and Doug paint brush sets, each pack comes with four brushes (perfect for siblings or friends to share) in various colors. The brushes are made with natural bristles and have easy to clean plastic handles. We carry four different sizes at Blickenstaff's, from small to jumbo. The jumbo size is perfect for kids with little hands and big ideas. The smaller brushes are great for adding finishing touches and intricate detail to a masterpiece.
This unique toy makes creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces easy and fun! Just add whatever colors you like onto your canvas (the Swirl Master includes black and white paper in two different sizes), turn on the Swirl Master, and watch art take shape! Each piece comes out different then the one before. The Swirl Master includes five vibrant colors and a plastic splatter shield to keep young artists (and their "studios") clean.

Alex super soft modeling clay and dough are perfect for little hands eager to build and sculpt. The dough comes in a pack of six bold colors, each with an airtight container to prevent it from drying out between uses. The clay comes in a one pound package with five colors and it never dries out.
This toy is actually a real, working ceramic wheel. This set includes a wheel, a foot pedal for speed control, two pounds of clay, cutting and sculpting tools and six colors of paint. There are also thorough instructions on how to throw pots, vases, pencil holders and more. This is a great learning toy that will continue to be more fun as the child gets more skilled at using it.
