Top 5 Friday

  • Top Five Friday: Melissa & Doug

It's Friday. Yay! To kick off another fun weekend we're going to share with you our top 5 favorite Melissa & Doug toys! Why? Because Melissa & Doug make some of the classiest (and durable) toys on the market right now. And with that being said let's jump right into our top 5!

    Shopping Cart
Seriously - a kids shopping cart that is made from the same heavy duty metal your cart at the grocery store is made of. This cart could do just as much damage to your car in a parking lot as a real cart! We've got these carts on the floor all the time and they're being used constantly. The cart provides kids with literally the exact same experience as their parents in the grocery store!

    Trunkii
A suitcase that doubles as a toy? Yep! Kids can hop on and ride the Trunkii around or parents can pull their kids through the airport. This toy is made from a durable plastic case and the edges where it closes are lined with a soft rubber to help eliminate the possibility of getting fingers caught in jagged edges!

    Train Tracks
Yeah I know - you've seen train tracks before. So what's the big deal? The big deal is that you can buy each piece individually. I know I lost all kinds of pieces as a kid and Mom never wanted to buy an entire set just so that I could get a few pieces replaced. Melissa & Doug sell their tracks individually so you can customize your very own railway system! Oh, and by the way, they have sized their set to match up with most other wooden sets so you can now just pick up those pesky missing pieces instead of shelling out for a whole new set :)

    Magnetic Dress-Up Dolls
Melissa & Doug have put together about 6 different styles of magnetic dress up dolls. These are perfect for keeping the kids entertained during quiet times like church, symphony concerts, or when Dad is trying to focus on March Madness!

    Wooden Food
Melissa & Doug do a lot of things right-but they've really made a name for themselves in the wooden play food category. They have an incredible selection of high quality wooden food that you can't find anywhere else. Most kids don't want to just play with apples and bananas all day long. That's why Melissa & Doug has made everything from sushi and pizza to birthday cake and apple pie! You can put together entire meals with their awesome sets!

5 items? Man, it was tough to narrow it down to only 5. Melissa & Doug makes such AMAZING toys that you'll love almost everything you come across.

  • Top 5 Puzzles

It's been a weird winter as far as the weather is concerned. Not much snow in the mountains. But too cold to be able to really enjoy the outdoors. We're all stuck inside trying to find things to do. Don't get stuck in a daze in front of your TV. One of our favorite things to do here at the store is put together puzzles! Here's a list of 5 puzzles that will not disappoint!

    #5 Puzzle Baseball

The puzzle baseball is perfect for athletes stuck indoors. Your little league player will enjoy putting together a puzzle from his favorite sport!

    #4 USA Puzzle

This is a fantastic way to combine playtime with learning. This map of America has lots of fun illustrations to help kids learn the location and areas of interest from each state.

    #3 Puzzle Pyramid

Just in case you're tired of the same old flat puzzles - check out the pyramid puzzle. This 3-D puzzle is harder than it appears and will give you a fun new way to look at puzzles.

    #2 World's LARGEST Puzzle

That's right - it is about 15' x 5'. Yeah. It's huge. 24,000 pieces and the image is an awesome combination of animals on land and sea! Seriously, this would take you forever (or close to that).

    #1 Provo Puzzle

There's just something awesome about a puzzle featuring your city. Dowdle Folk Art is a local company and the artist, Eric Dowdle, is seriously one of the nicest and down to earth guys. The Provo puzzle captures the beauty of the valley and the many people who make it so wonderful!

  • Top Five Friday: British Candy

Let's be honest, we owe a lot to our motherland. Beatlemania, Harry Potter, the Royal Wedding...the United Kingdom has given us some beautiful things. One of our favorite imports from jolly old England is the sweets! At Blickenstaff's, our phone booth is stuffed with tasty treats from across the pond. Here's our top five favorites!

    5. Minstrels

These round little candies may look like overgrown brown M&M's, but they are so much more! Creamy and rich Galaxy chocolate is coated in a hard candy shell. The result is perfection that fits in the palm of your hand.

    4. Cadbury Dairy Milk

There's nothing quite like a simple bar of pure, creamy chocolate. Cadbury Dairy Milk is just that. The smooth texture and rich taste satisfy even the most intense cravings. This one keeps any chocolate lover very happy!

    3. Galaxy Caramel

Who doesn't love a little caramel with their chocolate? Especially when the sweet and salty caramel is encased in delicious Galaxy chocolate! This bar provides ample flavor and won't dissappoint!

    2. Crunchie

One of the great tragedies of our time is that honeycomb is dramatically underappreciated. Luckily, our friends at Cadbury have recognized this horrible oversight and created the Crunchie bar. A light, crunchy honeycomb center coated in smooth Cadbury chocolate, this treat is unique in every way!

    1. Lion Bar

Like the name suggests, this candy bar is like a big, beefed up version of a Kit Kat. The Lion bar consists of a chocolate wafer cookie that is coated in caramel, crisped rice and chocolate. Do you really need to know any thing else about it?

You can shop for all your favorite British Candy bars in our store or on our website. What are some of your favorites? Leave a comment by Sunday night to win a candy bar from our international section! The winner will be announced Monday morning.

  • Top 5 Friday: Halloween Candy

We love Friday, because Friday means Top 5! Halloween is just around the corner, so this week we're highlighting our top five favorite Halloween treats in the store.

    5. Lightning Bugs

These little gummy worms come with tongs to handle them. The tongs light up the little bugs like real lightning bugs. These are super cool in the dark!

    4. Gummy Teeth

These are our craziest gummy candies! The delicious strawberry flavored gummies are shaped like a row of teeth, complete with gums! You can stick these over your real teeth, or just eat them up!

    3. Candy Corn

These chewy, tasty little treats are the classic Halloween candy. We love the sweet yellow, orange, and white kernals. They're perfect for using in crafts and decorations, or just to snack on!  No matter what the use, we can't get enough of them!

    2. Mr. Stache Wax Mustache

We love the idea of a candy that's also a costume. You can wear these crazy wax mustaches until you're ready for a tasty grape flavored snack!

    1. Gummy Octopus

These creepy crawlers are technically considered octopuses, but they look exactly like spiders to us! Whatever they are, they're perfectly suited for a wiggly, spooky Halloween treat.

What are YOUR favorite Halloween tricks or treats?! Leave a comment to win (1/2) pound of bulk candy!

    (winner announced Monday morning)

  • Top Five Friday: Five under $5

At Blickenstaff's, we believe in fun for everyone! And we believe that you shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to have fun. Our store is full of great little treasures for less than five dollars. Here are some of our favorites!

    5. Self-adhesive Mustaches

Everybody loves a good fake mustache, right? This set features seven different mustaches so you can change up you look every day of the week! Each mustache is from a different movie, so they are great for costumes, or for a quick disguise.

    4. Tiara Rings

    Tiara Rings

You can never go wrong with a little bit of sparkle. Walking around in public with a tiara on your head is typically frowned upon, but these rings will have the opposite affect. We've found that wearing a tiny crown on your finger is a little more subtle. With four different designs to choose from, you can definitely find one to suit your inner royalty.

    3. Lego Minifigurines

    Lego Minifigurines

Hearkening back to the era of foil wrapped baseball cards, these little figurines bring an element of surprise to your purchase. Each figurine is wrapped in an opaque package so you don't know which one you will get until you buy it. In our opinion, they're all so cool it doesn't matter which one you end up with!

    2. Beanie Boos

    Beanie Boos

These soft, cuddly little animals are the perfect little companion. With their big eyes and sweet smiles, they are a welcome addition to any collection. There's plenty of animals to choose from, or you can collect them all.

    1. Super Boink

    Super Boink

Commonly mistaken for a Chinese finger trap, the Super Boink is proof that good things come in small packages! This little pocket rocket isn't flashy or complicated, but it can provide hours of fun! Whether you are seeing how high you can launch it or aiming it at a particular target (like your older brother), the Super Boink is by far our favorite little toy at Blickenstaff's!

What are your favorite toys for under five dollars? Leave a comment in the comment section by Monday for your chance to win one of our mustache sets!
