  • Kickin' the Kikbo!

Ever heard of Kickbo?  Take a few feathers, stick them into a few plastic & felt cutouts and... Wala!  Now you have a toy you can kick around just like a hacky sack.  We played in our store for a while trying to do some insanely awesome tricks, which reminded me of my grade school soccer days gone by...

    ...Knee

    ...Chest

    ...Foot

    ...HEAD!!!

Kikbo is meant for kids 8+, but I honestly don't know any kid who wouldn't want to give this a nice... KICK! Spending the time we did to have fun with our new Kikbo was AMAZING and I'm personally working on improving my tricks! Take a look at the Kikbo Official Video to see what tricks you can work on.

Think your amazing at it already? Come in, grab an employee and show them your moves!

We know we're jumping the gun just a little bit, but we can't help it...we're SO EXCITED about our new gingerbread house kits!

We are very lucky to have professional chef, Kent Anderson (AKA the genius behind Chef's Table, La Jolla Grove, Malawi's Pizza and more!) at the Shops at Riverwoods. Chef Kent handmade each of our gingerbread kits, which come with four walls, a roof, and a bag of frosting to create a beautiful gingerbread house! And of course, Blickenstaff's has all the candy you could ever need to deck your gingerbread house out for the holidays!

The kit costs $9.99 and is available while supplies last in our store! Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page telling us what candy YOU would use to decorate a gingerbread house. Two lucky readers will win a kit for free!

  • Marshmallow Turkeys

The Candy Chef returns with a recipe to get you excited for Thanksgiving! Everyone looks forward to turkey on the big day, so why not make one a little earlier? Here's a fun, easy recipe that will get you and your kids feeling thankful!

    You will need:

    • 3 tablespoons butter
    • 10-ounce bag of mini-marshmallows
    • 6 cups Rice Krispies (plain or cocoa flavor)
    • Waxed paper
    • Small gumdrops
    • Red licorice
    • Wooden skewers (cut in half)
    • Chocolate decorating icing
    • Candy corn

    Directions:

    1. Follow the Rice Krispies Treats recipe on the cereal box.

    2. Drop heaping spoonfuls of the mixture onto waxed paper and let them sit until they're cool enough to handle.

    3. For each turkey body, create a ball the size of a fist. The heads should be about the size of golf balls. Stick the heads to the bodies. (Coat your hands with butter or cooking spray if the mixture gets too sticky.)

    4. To make feathers, thread gumdrops and licorice onto the skewers. Poke about six skewers into the back of each turkey. Get creative! Blickenstaff's has lots of gummies (like Swedish Fish, gummy peaches, and more) that would make beautiful tail feathers for your little turkey.

    5. Use the icing as "glue" to attach the following items: for eyes, use the marshmallows with chocolate icing for pupils; for the beak and feet, use candy corn; for the wattle under the bird's neck, use licorice. Makes about six to eight turkeys.

    Recipe found here.

  • Top 5 Friday: Halloween Candy

We love Friday, because Friday means Top 5! Halloween is just around the corner, so this week we're highlighting our top five favorite Halloween treats in the store.

    5. Lightning Bugs

These little gummy worms come with tongs to handle them. The tongs light up the little bugs like real lightning bugs. These are super cool in the dark!

    4. Gummy Teeth

These are our craziest gummy candies! The delicious strawberry flavored gummies are shaped like a row of teeth, complete with gums! You can stick these over your real teeth, or just eat them up!

    3. Candy Corn

These chewy, tasty little treats are the classic Halloween candy. We love the sweet yellow, orange, and white kernals. They're perfect for using in crafts and decorations, or just to snack on!  No matter what the use, we can't get enough of them!

    2. Mr. Stache Wax Mustache

We love the idea of a candy that's also a costume. You can wear these crazy wax mustaches until you're ready for a tasty grape flavored snack!

    1. Gummy Octopus

These creepy crawlers are technically considered octopuses, but they look exactly like spiders to us! Whatever they are, they're perfectly suited for a wiggly, spooky Halloween treat.
